Over the past year, RWE has conducted field studies at these solar farms and compared the results with farms without biodiversity measures and control areas. The research covers insects, birds, bats, mammals, reptiles, and flora. The company is collaborating with scientists from Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznan to ensure the accuracy of the data collected.
Initial findings suggest that solar farms provide a conducive environment for various plant and animal species, with insect populations thriving without typical agricultural treatments. The research also indicates that solar farms serve as refuges for insects, benefiting agricultural production by reducing pests in surrounding fields.
