Ameresco has secured a contract to implement energy upgrades across 124 buildings at Canadian Forces Base in Edmonton. The measures include LED lighting, heating system upgrades, and the installation of geothermal heat pump systems, among others. These upgrades are expected to save over $2 million in energy costs annually and reduce greenhouse gas emissions by more than 27%, creating 125 new jobs in the area.
The project, which underwent a comprehensive evaluation in 2022, is currently in the design stage and is expected to be completed by the end of 2026. Fast-tracked measures such as boiler replacements and LED lighting upgrades are set to begin this summer. The initiative aims to improve the energy efficiency of the buildings while providing a more modern and comfortable energy system for Canadian armed forces stationed at CFB Edmonton and benefiting the surrounding community by lowering carbon emissions.
