Finnish renewable energy investor, Korkia, has partnered with Romania-based renewable energy developer, Econous Green Energy, to develop 600 MW of solar energy in Romania. The initial projects are expected to be licensed and ready for construction by 2025. This capacity will generate approximately 780,000 MWh of electricity, enough to power around 200,000 European households and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 300,000 kg annually.
Romania aims to become a net exporter of renewable energy and strengthen its position in Europe’s energy system. The country has favorable conditions for solar generation, with high levels of irradiation and ample land availability. With the market expected to grow by over 7 GW in the next decade, Romania is on track to become a renewable energy hub in Southeast Europe.
International investors are increasingly attracted to Romania’s renewable energy sector, as the government has set ambitious growth targets. Currently, about 40% of Romania’s energy comes from carbon-based sources, but there is a shift towards renewable sources like solar and wind power.
