New Mexico’s state park agency is seeking public input on a revamped park access schedule to protect natural resources and scenic sites while balancing tourism and engagement of future generations. The agency has been ahead of the curve in terms of EV charging, allowing EV drivers to use campgrounds to charge with their own EVSE plugged into 50-amp RV pedestals. The proposed fee changes aim to improve cash flow into the State Parks system, with revenue potentially tripling by raising fees for out-of-state visitors and eliminating day use fees for New Mexico residents.
Some improvements suggested for the plan include setting reasonable use limits for annual camping passes, allocating funds for DC fast charging stations at parks with limited infrastructure, and offering a small discount on fees for EV drivers to encourage outdoor recreation in EVs.
