1. Pivot Energy and the University of Denver are partnering on campus and off-site solar projects totaling over 23 MWDC.
2. DU aims to offset total campus electricity consumption with clean solar power to reach carbon neutrality by 2030.
3. The projects will include on-site solar systems and off-site net metering projects in various counties, contributing to DU’s sustainability goals and advancing the clean energy workforce.
Pivot Energy and the University of Denver are teaming up to build solar facilities on campus and off-site, totaling over 23 MWDC. This partnership will help DU reach its goal of carbon neutrality by utilizing clean solar power to offset its electricity consumption. DU has been committed to sustainability since joining the American College and University Presidents’ Climate Commitment in 2008.
Pivot Energy will develop seven projects, including a 1.2-MW on-site solar system on the Ritchie Center and six off-site net metering solar projects. These projects will be spread across Larimer, Adams, Mesa, and Weld Counties and will take 24-36 months to complete. Once finished, they will help DU eliminate 100% of scope two greenhouse gas emissions and reduce half of its carbon footprint.
DU Chancellor Jeremy Haefner is determined to achieve carbon neutrality by 2030 and sees the partnership with Pivot Energy as a key step towards this goal. Pivot Energy’s SVP of Strategic Accounts, Mat Elmore, praises DU for leading in sustainability and advancing the clean energy workforce. The passage of Senate Bill 261 in 2021 has also made it easier for customers like DU to access solar energy through off-site net metering programs.
