The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency announced that 60 selectees will receive $7 billion through the Solar for All grant competition to deliver residential solar projects to over 900,000 households nationwide. This initiative is part of President Biden’s Investing in America agenda and aims to provide low-income and disadvantaged communities with access to distributed residential solar to lower energy costs, create jobs, advance environmental justice, and tackle climate change.
The selected applicants will invest in local, clean energy workforce development programs to create equitable pathways into family-sustaining jobs, with at least 35% already engaging with unions. The program also aligns with President Biden’s Justice40 Initiative, ensuring that 40% of the benefits flow to disadvantaged communities marginalized by underinvestment and pollution.
Solar for All will expand existing low-income solar programs and launch new ones in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, territories, and Tribes. The selected applicants have committed to reducing climate and air pollution, benefiting low-income communities, and mobilizing financing for affordable solar energy. The program aims to achieve a carbon pollution-free power sector by 2035 and a net-zero emissions economy by 2050.
