Recently, there has been a downturn for Tesla due to softened demand and a decline in stock price. General Motors is introducing the Silverado EV pickup truck with vehicle-to-home (V2H) bi-directional charging capabilities, enabling it to supply backup power to homes. By 2026, most GM electric vehicles will have V2H capability.
V2H technology allows electric vehicles to share power with a customer’s home, providing a solution for homeowners during electrical outages. GM has created a new division, GM Energy, offering V2H bidirectional charging products for residential customers. The GM Energy V2H bundle includes the GM Energy Powershift Charger and GM Energy V2H Enablement Kit. This technology can provide up to 10.2 kW of electricity.
While Tesla has been selling its Powerwall residential storage battery, it has not been involved in V2H or V2G technology. However, other manufacturers like Ford, Hyundai, Kia, and Nissan are already offering V2H capabilities in their electric vehicle models. V2H may lead to V2G technology, allowing EVs to interact with the electrical grid. Overall, V2H technology is gaining traction and may become a standard feature in the future of electric vehicles.
