– The BESS project known as Cellarhead, with a capacity of 300MW/624 MWh, is set to be connected to the UK’s electricity grid by the end of 2026.
– Ameresco and Envision Energy have been selected for the construction of the Cellarhead project, aimed at enhancing the UK’s energy security and reliability.
– Atlantic Green will retain ownership and operation of the BESS upon completion, aligning with the UK’s net-zero ambitions and aiming to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
Atlantic Green has chosen Ameresco and Envision Energy to construct a 300MW/624MWh battery energy storage systems (BESS) project called Cellarhead in the UK. This project aims to enhance the country’s energy security and reliability by connecting to the National Grid’s Cellarhead substation in the West Midlands region. Construction is set to begin this year, with the BESS project expected to be connected to the grid by the end of 2026. Ameresco will handle the engineering, procurement, construction, operations, and maintenance, while Envision Energy will supply the BESS and associated services. The project aligns with the UK’s net-zero ambitions by supporting clean energy generation and reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Upon completion, Atlantic Green will own and operate the BESS, contributing to the UK’s journey towards achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2050. Ameresco and Atlantic Green’s collaboration on this project is expected to support the UK’s progress towards increased power autonomy and net-zero carbon emissions. In addition, Ameresco was selected to construct a BESS project in California, further contributing to local capacity and a more reliable electrical system.
