A study conducted in early 2024 by Coleman Parkes Research and sponsored by SAS revealed that organisations are excited about the potential of generative AI to boost business and people productivity, but they are facing challenges in strategic planning and talent shortages that are hindering them from fully realizing its value. Marinela Profi, a strategic AI advisor at SAS, emphasized the importance of treating GenAI as a contributor to hyper automation and not just a shiny new toy.
According to the study, organisations are encountering stumbling blocks in four key areas of implementation: increasing trust in data usage and compliance, integrating GenAI into existing systems, talent and skills shortages, and predicting costs associated with using large language models (LLMs). Only one in 10 organisations has a reliable system to measure bias and privacy risk in LLMs, while 93% lack a comprehensive governance framework for GenAI.
Profi emphasized the importance of identifying real-world use cases that deliver high value and solve human needs in a sustainable and scalable manner. The study was presented at SAS Innovate in Las Vegas, where industry leaders gathered to discuss the latest trends in AI and analytics.
