– EBay launches new generative AI-powered “shop the look” feature on its iOS mobile app
– Feature suggests carousel of images and ideas based on customer’s shopping history
– Recommendations personalized, evolve as customer shops more, includes pre-owned and luxury items complementing user’s personal style

EBay has launched a new generative AI-powered feature called “shop the look” to cater to fashion enthusiasts. This feature will suggest outfit ideas based on the customer’s shopping history and will evolve as the customer shops more. The goal is to show how other fashion items can complement their current wardrobe by providing personalized recommendations.

The “shop the look” feature includes interactive hotspots that reveal similar items and outfit inspirations when tapped. These looks may include both pre-owned and luxury items that match the user’s personal style. The feature is powered by eBay.ai and was developed in collaboration with the company’s Responsible AI team and RAI Principles.

To access “shop the look”, users must have viewed at least 10 fashion items over the past 180 days. It will be displayed on the eBay homepage and the fashion landing page. The feature aims to showcase eBay’s inventory in a different way and potentially drive more sales. eBay plans to expand to other categories in the future and add more personalization elements to the feature.

The “shop the look” feature is currently available on iOS in the U.S. and U.K., with Android support coming later in the year. While eBay is using AI for fashion inspiration, other companies like Google and Amazon are utilizing AI to help customers virtually try on clothes or find the right fit when shopping online. eBay’s focus on fashion inspiration makes it unique, as personal style can be subjective and challenging to pinpoint.
