However, Google has now rolled out its new YouTube Music Gemini extension, allowing users to connect YouTube Music to the AI bot. This extension enables users to access their music library with various prompts, as long as the user’s account is the same for both Gemini and YouTube Music. Users can ask Gemini for music by song, album, artist, playlist, genre, and more, and control playback and play podcasts on YouTube.
To enable the YouTube Music extension, users can visit gemini.google.com/extensions on desktop or mobile, or activate it through the Gemini app’s extensions settings. Users with Android phones can simply ask Gemini to play music and follow the on-screen instructions. By enabling the extension, Gemini will have access to the user’s preferences, playlists, and playback history. Currently, the extension only works with English prompts, but more language options may be available in the future.
Google is still refining the YouTube Music Gemini extension on desktop, as users have reported some issues with certain prompts. This rollout follows the discovery of the extension by Android users before Google I/O 2024.
