At Microsoft Build 2024, the future of AI in Windows was showcased with new features for Copilot+ PCs, including Recall and Cocreator. These features will be exclusively available on Copilot+ PCs starting June 18, with devices requiring at least 16GB of RAM, 256GB of storage, and an NPU capable of at least 40 TOPS. Microsoft’s Surface Pro 11 and Surface Laptop 7 will be among the first Copilot+ PCs, with other laptop makers also releasing them in June. These features represent the cutting edge of Windows AI and can change the way users interact with Windows.

Recall is a new feature that acts as an expanded search function for the PC, indexing and storing snapshots of the user’s screen to facilitate semantic search. Meanwhile, Cocreator in Windows 11 Paint allows users to describe the art they want to create and fine-tune Paint’s application of those requests to the artwork. Live Captions, which provides English captions and real-time translation for audio on the PC, will work better on Copilot+ PCs.

Additionally, Windows Studio Effects like a new teleprompter feature will receive upgrades on Copilot+ PCs, making it easier for users to read from scripts during meetings. These AI-powered features are part of Microsoft’s ongoing efforts to integrate AI into various aspects of Windows, catering to different user needs and preferences. As Microsoft continues to develop more AI features for Windows, the AI PC trend is expected to grow in 2024 and beyond.
