– Bot creators on Poe can now set a per-message price for their bots to generate revenue
– Poe offers a variety of AI chatbots for users to try out from different creators
– The new revenue model rewards developers who create prompt bots and integrates with Poe’s AI
Quora-owned AI chatbot platform Poe has introduced a new revenue model that allows bot creators to set a per-message price for their bots, enabling them to make money every time a user interacts with the bot. This follows the company’s release of a revenue-sharing program in October 2023, where creators would receive a portion of earnings when users subscribed to Poe’s premium product.
Poe, which offers users access to various AI chatbots from companies like OpenAI and Google, aims to provide a platform for consumers to explore new AI technologies while giving Quora a source of new content. The revenue models introduced by the company reward AI enthusiasts who develop “prompt bots” and developer-built server bots that integrate with Poe’s AI.
Quora CEO Adam D’Angelo stated that the new pricing mechanism is crucial for developers with significant model inference or API costs. The goal is to create a thriving ecosystem of model developers and bot creators by covering operational costs. This revenue model is expected to encourage the development of new types of bots, such as tutoring, knowledge, assistants, analysis, storytelling, and image generation.
The per-message revenue model is currently available to U.S. bot creators but will expand globally in the future. Additionally, Poe has launched an enhanced analytics dashboard that provides creators with insights into average earnings across paywalls, subscriptions, and messages. This data will help creators understand how their pricing strategies impact bot usage and revenue.
