Biggest Trump Donor in 2020 Hesitant to Contribute in 2024

1. Donald Trump has likely clinched the Republican Party’s nomination but has not secured some of its largest mega-donors.
2. Some top donors are concerned about Trump’s legal problems and are focusing on congressional races instead of supporting his campaign.
3. President Joe Biden is outpacing Trump in fundraising, with Biden having nearly $100 million more than Trump as of the start of April.

Despite securing the Republican Party’s nomination, Donald Trump is struggling to secure support from some of its largest mega-donors. Concerns about his legal issues have led some donors to focus on congressional races instead of supporting Trump’s campaign. This is particularly worrying as President Joe Biden continues to raise significant campaign funds.

One notable donor who has yet to commit is Miriam Adelson, who previously contributed $90 million to Trump’s 2020 campaign with her late husband. While it is likely she will contribute eventually, the amount and timing of her donation remain uncertain. As the campaign intensifies, Trump’s need for financial support is crucial.

In March, Biden and the Democrats raised over $90 million, compared to $65 million raised by Trump and the Republicans. Biden started April with $192 million, giving him almost $100 million more than Trump. Trump also faces mounting legal expenses in addition to his campaign costs.

However, Trump still has loyal donors contributing to both his legal defense fund and his campaign. For example, hotelier Robert Bigelow donated $1 million towards Trump’s legal bills and $20 million to his campaign. Despite falling behind in fundraising, there is still a possibility for Trump to catch up with the support of dedicated donors.
