Despite the release of the new app, Shine received criticism for its outdated aesthetic and questioned its purpose as a photo-sharing app. Sunshine’s previous apps included a birthday reminder app, a contact-management app, and Shine, which allowed users to pool photos taken by different people at the same event and had some AI integration that likely appealed to older users.
In his LinkedIn post, Munoz Torres expressed gratitude for his time at Sunshine, highlighting the challenges and rewards of startup life while expressing confidence in Mayer and the team’s ability to continue developing innovative products. Despite not offering further comment, a representative for Sunshine acknowledged Munoz Torres’ significant contributions to the development of their products, including the recently-launched Shine app. Moving forward, Munoz Torres mentioned his personal goal of learning SwiftUI and further understanding LLMs.
