2. Footage shows large blast, fireball and Russian air defenses intercepting incoming projectiles
3. Ships hit by Ukraine, Azov and Yamal, belong to Russian Black Sea Fleet’s 197th Landing Ships Brigade; commander of Ukrainian Air Force praises successful combat work
The recent strike on Sevastopol in Russia also hit a military communications center and some Black Sea fleet infrastructure. Footage shared on social media showed a large blast in the city, with a fireball and plume of black smoke. Ukraine claimed to have used Storm Shadow missiles to target the Russian communication tower, hitting ships belonging to the 197th Landing Ships Brigade of the Russian Black Sea Fleet.
Ukraine’s Air Force commander thanked pilots and sailors for their successful combat work following the strike, although Russian authorities did not report the attack. The Russian-appointed head of Sevastopol stated that 10 Ukrainian missiles had been shot down and claimed damage to houses and a civilian casualty. Russia retaliated with missile and drone attacks on Ukraine, including on Lviv and Kyiv, describing it as the largest aerial bombardment of Ukraine’s energy system since the war began.
Ukraine has repeatedly targeted Russia’s Black Sea fleet, sinking ships and causing significant damage to infrastructure. The country continues to insist on retaking Crimea and other occupied territories in its fight against Russia, with ongoing efforts to disrupt and damage Russian naval capabilities in the Black Sea.
