Advancements in Smart Water Metering in Australia and New Zealand

1. Itron partners with Spark IoT and IOTA to introduce smart water meters in Cairns, Australia
2. Expansion project in Cairns includes deployment of Intelis water meters and Temetra platform for data management
3. IOTA’s Lentic IoT platform and smart water meters to be utilized in Australia and New Zealand for improved water management and leak detection.

Itron and Spark IoT, in partnership with IOTA, are introducing smart water meters and solutions for water utilities in Cairns, Australia, and New Zealand. Cairns Regional Council will deploy Itron’s water connectivity and analytics solution, including Intelis wSource NB-IoT water meters, to modernize their water distribution system. This project will help improve the collection, tracking, and management of water data.

The project will be deployed over the next three years as part of the Council’s water security plan to quickly identify water leaks and improve the customer experience. Additionally, Itron announced the expansion of the Temetra platform in Australia and New Zealand to include NB-IoT communications, providing water utilities with more flexibility to streamline operations on a single platform.

In New Zealand, Spark IoT and Iota have partnered to introduce a new generation of smart water meter management for local councils and water utilities. The initiative is based on Iota’s Lentic IoT water meter data management platform and the latest smart water meter technology, providing tools for automated customer leak notifications and data validation.

Daniel Sullivan, CEO of Iota, emphasizes the importance of accurately monitoring water resources and networks to protect our most precious resource. The Lentic platform, developed at South East Water, has been successfully deployed in various projects in Australia, including smart water meter deployments for local councils and utilities.
