Battery factories are being built across the U.S. to support battery energy storage and the electrification of transportation. American Battery Factory (ABF) has partnered with Lead Intelligent Equipment (LEAD) to secure custom automation equipment for its gigafactory in Tucson, Arizona. Arizona is a popular location for battery manufacturing, with LG Energy Solution and KORE Power also establishing facilities in the state. ABF’s gigafactory will produce lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery cells for various applications, boasting a fully automated production line with advanced equipment provided by U.S.-based companies.
ABF’s gigafactory, expected to be completed by 2025, will feature a headquarters, research and development center, and multiple factory modules. The company aims to produce LFP battery cells designed for a range of markets, including utilities, data centers, telecommunications, and national defense. President John Kem, a retired two-star Army general, brings decades of experience to ABF in the manufacturing and energy sectors. The company is focused on utilizing advanced technology and U.S.-based partnerships to enhance manufacturing capabilities and meet domestic demand for battery cells as electrification efforts increase across the country. Plans for materials sourcing, recycling processes, and expansion of production capacity indicate ABF’s commitment to sustainable and competitive battery manufacturing in the U.S.
