Amprion, a German transmission system operator, has increased its five-year investment plan for the power transmission network by 25%, raising it to €27.5bn by 2028 to accommodate the growing influx of renewable electricity. This substantial rise from the previous plan of €22bn aims to support the transition towards renewable energy, with an investment of €3.9bn expected in 2024. As one of the country’s four transmission system operators, Amprion’s 11,000km network covers a third of Germany’s high-voltage transmission network. The company is accelerating key projects to connect with green energy sites and achieve a 100% green power sector by 2035. The financial burden of grid enhancements is primarily borne by consumers through grid usage fees, supplemented by external financing. Amprion has expedited the construction of new transmission lines and reported a 27% increase in adjusted earnings before interest and taxation to €980m in 2023.
