The Ohio Power Siting Board has approved the construction of the 800-MW Oak Run Solar Project, which will include 300 MW of battery storage. The project will span across multiple townships in Madison County, Ohio and will cover a total of 4,400 acres within a 6,050-acre project area. The approval was granted with 46 conditions to minimize and mitigate potential impacts during construction and operation.
The Oak Run Solar Project plans to implement an agrivoltaic program for planting crops and grazing livestock in between solar panels. This program will be the largest of its kind in the nation and will provide economic benefits to local farmers and businesses. The project is expected to generate $8.2 million in annual revenue for local governments and schools, as well as create 1,500 construction jobs and maintenance positions in the area.
The project developer, Oak Run Solar Project, LLC, will be responsible for installing perimeter fencing, setbacks, and posting decommissioning bonds for the solar and battery energy storage facilities. The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) has expressed support for the project, citing the economic benefits it will bring to the local community and the renewable energy sector in Ohio.
