– Approval of Siting Agreement and Conditional Use Permit for 150-MW Cumberland Solar Facility in Virginia
– $200 million private infrastructure investment in Cumberland County
– Project expected to create 150 local jobs and contribute $25 million in direct onsite wages during construction
Hecate Energy has received approval for the Siting Agreement and Conditional Use Permit application for the Cumberland Solar Facility in Virginia. The 150-MW project is expected to bring substantial economic benefits to Cumberland County and build energy independence for Virginia, with a $200 million private investment in the county and $14 million in direct payments to the community. The project will create 150 local jobs during construction and contribute $25 million in direct onsite wages. It is scheduled to begin construction in 2028 and be operational by 2030.
The Cumberland Solar Facility, to be built on nearly 1,000 acres in Northern Cumberland County, reflects Central Virginia’s commitment to sustainable development. It will provide financial support to essential community services such as firefighting, emergency medical response, and educational programs. The project developer, Preston Schultz, praised the leadership and support of the Cumberland County Board of Supervisors in advancing the project. Hecate Energy expects Virginia’s Department of Environmental Quality to issue a permit for the project by 2024 or early 2025.
