Burns & McDonnell Completes Portfolio of Nine Solar Projects Totaling 764 MW

1. Burns & McDonnell completed engineer-procure-construct (EPC) and self-perform construction services for nine solar projects in Wisconsin as part of Alliant Energy’s Clean Energy Blueprint.
2. The projects, which will power approximately 170,000 homes in their first year of production, were completed on time despite challenges related to COVID-19, labor, and supply chain issues.
3. The solar program employed over 1,300 craft workers, with an apprenticeship program established to support local employment and provide training for apprentices looking to enter the trades.

Burns & McDonnell has successfully completed engineer-procure-construct (EPC) and self-perform construction services for nine solar projects in Wisconsin as part of Alliant Energy’s Clean Energy Blueprint. These projects are expected to power approximately 170,000 homes in their first year of production. Despite challenges such as COVID-19, labor, and supply chain issues, all sites were delivered on time.

The solar program employed over 1,300 craft workers, including an apprenticeship program for 230 apprentices working to become carpenters, electricians, and more. Over 75% of the craft workforce were Wisconsin residents, and efforts were made to promote career opportunities in the trades to local high school and trade school students.

Burns & McDonnell worked closely with Alliant Energy, local unions, and contractor partners to ensure the success of the projects while promoting safety and sustainability. The projects were developed following Alliant Energy’s Envision Sustainability Framework, leading to Platinum Envision ISI verification for some sites.

The solar facilities span nearly 5,000 acres and add 764 MW of solar capacity to Alliant Energy’s generation portfolio. The team faced challenges but overcame them through integrated project management and innovative solutions. The projects have not only provided clean and renewable energy but also supported local communities and sustainable development initiatives.
