– The project is part of Sonnedix’s UK growth strategy and is the first to utilize an innovative €500 million loan facility to finance renewable energy projects in Europe and the UK under the UK Government’s contracts for difference (CfD) scheme.
Sonnedix, a global renewable energy producer, has started construction on the Cowley Complex in County Durham, UK. This plant will be the largest in its 300 MW UK portfolio and is expected to be one of the largest solar PV plants in the UK once completed in 3Q25. The complex consists of three connected sites with a total of 120 MW capacity.
Once operational, the Cowley Complex will supply approximately 124,600 MWh of renewable electricity per year, powering around 35,000 UK homes and reducing carbon dioxide emissions by almost 48,000 tons annually. Sonnedix aims to contribute to the UK’s transition to renewable energy by providing clean and affordable power while creating over 100 green jobs in the local area during construction.
This project is financed through Sonnedix’s innovative €500 million loan facility secured in December 2023, allowing for efficient development of renewable energy projects in Europe and the UK. The whole UK portfolio is contracted under the UK Government’s CfD scheme, providing long-term price and revenue security. Sonnedix’s CEO expressed excitement about the company’s growth strategy and role in achieving the UK’s decarbonization goals through the Cowley Complex and other projects.
