Contractors Unveiled for UK Commercial Gas Power Project with Carbon Capture Technology

The Net Zero Teesside Power project in the UK, a joint venture between bp and Equinor, aims to be one of the world’s first gas-fired power stations equipped with carbon capture technology. The project will feature an 860-MW gas-fired power plant integrated with a carbon capture plant to capture up to 2 million tonnes of CO2 annually.
The captured CO2 will be compressed, transported, and stored in the North Sea by the Northern Endurance Partnership. The project is part of the East Coast Cluster initiative in Northeast England, which is focused on decarbonizing industrial sectors in the region.
Eight major contracts have been unveiled for the project, pending regulatory clearances and final investment decisions. The contractors will be responsible for various aspects of the project, including power generation, carbon capture, and infrastructure development.
The UK government aims to support the development of carbon capture, utilization, and storage technologies as part of its transition to a low-carbon economy. The Net Zero Teesside Power project is a crucial step in establishing commercial gas power with carbon capture, contributing to the government’s goal of decarbonizing the power system by 2035.
