Deliveries for TSO’s BESS project by Fluence can begin

1. Approval has been granted for the construction of a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) in Germany, with deliveries expected to begin in 2024 and completion scheduled for 2025.
2. The BESS will serve as a strategic network node along a transmission line, helping to optimize power flow and reduce the need for additional investments in transmission infrastructure.
3. The Grid Booster concept, which the BESS is a part of, has been introduced in Germany and other countries, with the aim of improving power system efficiency and reliability in regions with high electricity demand and distant generation sources.

Approval has been granted for the construction and shipment of a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) by Fluence, with deliveries expected to start this year and the project scheduled to be online by 2025. The BESS will serve as a strategic network node along a transmission line and can mimic the line’s power injection or absorption, reducing the need for additional transmission line investment. It can also act as a safety buffer in the event of a fault by replacing the power provided by a transmission line. Another TSO in Germany, Amprion, has also received approval for five smaller Grid Booster projects totaling 250MW, to be built in different states. Fluence has made storage-as-transmission a strategic focus, with similar projects deployed in other countries as well. The deployment of Grid Boosters in Germany is focused on the southern part of the country, where electricity demand is high and generation from renewable resources is primarily located in the north, necessitating long transmission lines for efficient power distribution.
