Virginia regulators have approved over a dozen new solar projects from Dominion Energy, expanding the company’s clean energy fleet in the state. The projects will have a combined capacity of 764MW, powering nearly 250,000 homes. Some projects will be owned by Dominion Energy Virginia, while others will be independently owned and financed through power purchase agreements. The approval will significantly increase Dominion Energy’s solar portfolio in Virginia to over 4.6GW, enough to power 1.1 million homes. The projects are expected to create over 1,600 jobs and generate $570 million in economic benefits for the state, with completion set for 2026.
Additionally, Dominion Energy recently sold a 50% stake in its 2.6GW Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind project to Stonepeak, while retaining full control of the project. The construction of this wind farm, powered by 176 turbines, is one of the largest in the US and began after receiving final federal approvals. These investments in offshore wind, battery storage, and solar demonstrate Dominion Energy’s commitment to advancing Virginia’s clean energy transition and providing reliable, affordable, and cleaner energy for customers.
