Columbus is overseeing the development process of a 133MW power, 532MWh project that won a capacity market contract in December 2022. DTEK, a company with power generation and retail utility businesses, will make an additional bonus payment once the project reaches ready-to-build status, expected this year. Other BESS projects owned by developers Hynfra, OX2, and Energa Wytwarzanie were also awarded contracts in 2022.

In the 2023 capacity market auction, the amount of BESS awarded capacity significantly increased to around 1.7GW, with Greenvolt winning 70% before being acquired by private equity firm KKR. The auction saw a higher clearing price of PLN 406.35/kW compared to the previous year. Research firm LCP Delta predicts Poland will lead BESS deployments in the Central and Eastern Europe region with around 9GW of projects awarded grid connections.
