1. Duke Energy implementing PowerPair incentive program for home solar generation with battery energy storage in North Carolina
2. Program offers up to $9,000 in incentives for customers who install solar and battery systems
3. Customers can also participate in demand response programs and must use Duke Energy Trade Allies for installation.
Duke Energy is implementing the PowerPair program in North Carolina to offer incentives for residential customers who install home solar generation with battery energy storage. The program was approved by the North Carolina Utility Commission on January 11, 2024. Customers can receive up to $9,000 in incentives based on the type of solar array and battery installed. PowerPair was developed in collaboration with stakeholders to help increase reliability for solar energy in North Carolina.
Customers participating in PowerPair may also join Duke Energy’s demand response programs, such as the Power Manager and EnergyWise Home programs. By enrolling in these programs, customers allow Duke Energy to adjust their battery systems to provide electricity back to the grid, earning bill credits each month. Participants in the pilot program can choose between enrolling in the RSC or NMB options and must use a Duke Energy Trade Ally installer.
To ensure incentive equity, participants will be selected through a random selection process beginning on May 10. Customers can access program updates, view approved battery vendors, and see equipment eligibility on the Duke Energy website. By enrolling in PowerPair, customers help support North Carolina’s clean energy goals and can receive financial incentives for using solar power and battery storage.
