– Energy Vault and NV Energy have started commercial operation of the Reid Gardner BESS in Nevada
– The BESS is one of the largest in the state and is situated on the site of a former coal-fired facility
– The system is designed to store and dispatch renewable energy, managed by NV Energy using Energy Vault’s integration platform
Energy Vault and NV Energy have successfully launched the Reid Gardner Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) in Nevada, marking a significant achievement in energy storage solutions. The grid-tied BESS, with a capacity of 220MW/440 megawatt-hours, is one of the largest in the state and is located at the site of a former coal-fired generating facility. It serves as a two-hour energy storage system designed to store and dispatch surplus renewable energy like wind and solar power, being charged and discharged daily for peak consumption times.
Managed by NV Energy and utilizing Energy Vault’s integration platform and energy management system, Vault-OS, the Reid Gardner BESS is now operating at full capacity. Energy Vault was tasked with designing the custom BESS solution and overseeing the engineering, procurement, and construction for the project by NV Energy in December 2022. The completion of this project showcases Energy Vault’s commitment to delivering high-performance energy storage systems efficiently and on schedule. NV Energy has expressed appreciation for Energy Vault’s dedication throughout the project, emphasizing the importance of this collaboration in achieving clean energy and grid resiliency objectives in Nevada.
