YEO, a Turkey-based energy solutions company, is involved with a 688kWh BESS product and EPC services. The Ministry of Energy sees potential for a manufacturing plant in Zambia through this partnership.
GEI Power is working on several projects in Zambia, including the Kazungula Solar Power Plant (KSPP) and solar-plus-green-hydrogen projects in different districts. The Sesheke district might also see a 400MWh BESS project by local developer GreenCo. Masdar, an IPP from the UAE, has signed an MOU with Zesco to develop 2GW of solar PV in Zambia.
Zambia is represented by Zesco in the Southern African Power Pool (SAPP), a collaboration of southern African countries sharing a power grid. Collaboration with Turkish expertise and partnerships with international firms like YEO and Masdar are expected to boost Zambia’s renewable energy sector. The country aims to tap into innovation in battery storage and expand its manufacturing capabilities in the energy sector.
