– Hitachi Energy secures frame agreement with RWE for supply of transformers for renewable energy projects in Europe
– Agreement includes supply of small power transformers for RWE’s green energy projects
– Hitachi Energy establishes base designs for transformers to align with technical and regulatory specifications in European countries
Hitachi Energy has signed a frame agreement with RWE, a transmission system operator in Europe, to provide small power transformers for their renewable energy projects. This is the first agreement between the two companies and will support RWE’s green energy initiatives in Europe. Transformers are crucial for connecting renewable energy sources to the existing grid infrastructure.
The partnership will utilize base designs for small power transformers sourced from Hitachi Energy, ensuring they meet the technical and regulatory requirements of the countries where the projects will be implemented. Hitachi Energy has an extensive presence in Europe with manufacturing and service facilities across ten countries.
The agreement with RWE is part of Hitachi Energy’s efforts to meet the rising demand for transformers in Europe’s power system, driven by the increasing adoption of renewable energy and electrification. Wood Mackenzie research suggests that transformer supply constraints due to material, equipment, and labor shortages could pose challenges for renewable energy projects globally, with up to 25% at risk of delays.
In the US, the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) projects a significant increase in distribution transformer supply requirements by 2050 to meet the growing energy demands from various sectors. Strategic partnerships and collaborations are crucial in advancing renewable energy projects and achieving carbon neutrality goals.
