1. Some European automakers offer exclusive BEV models in the Chinese market.
2. Volkswagen Group, including Audi, offers a variety of BEV models in China, such as the ID.6 and Q5 e-tron.
3. BMW and Renault also have China-exclusive BEV models like the BMW i3 sedan and Renault JMEV Yi.
In the second part of a series exploring BEVs exclusive to the Chinese market, European automakers like Volkswagen, Audi, BMW, and Renault are highlighted. The Volkswagen ID.4, a popular model worldwide, has two variants specifically tailored for the Chinese market. Similarly, Audi offers the Q5 e-tron exclusively in China, a premium model with 7 seats. BMW sells a version of the i3 sedan in China with a larger battery and longer range compared to the global model. Renault’s JMEV venture in China includes the Yi sedan and the Little Kirin hatchback, both with affordable pricing and competitive features.
While Chinese consumers have access to reasonably priced BEVs from European automakers, these models are not offered in Europe due to pricing strategies that prioritize premium options. The European auto industry’s focus on high-priced EVs and lack of budget options hinder the transition to electrification. Additionally, a potential collusion between European auto manufacturers and politicians may be contributing to protectionist measures and restricted competition from Chinese manufacturers. This situation hampers the competitiveness of European automakers in international markets and slows down the EV transition in Europe.
