Mainstream Renewable Power has signed two wind energy service contracts (WESCs) with the Department of Energy in the Philippines for the development rights of two onshore wind farms totaling 440 MW. These contracts mark Mainstream’s first fully-owned WESCs in the Philippines and one of the first 100% foreign-owned companies to secure such contracts. The exclusive development rights include a 100 MW project in Santa Ana, Cagayan Province, and a 340 MW project on Panaon Island in Leyte Province, both already undergoing early-stage development activities.
Energy Secretary Raphael P.M. Lotilla expressed optimism about foreign investment in the Philippine renewable energy sector, highlighting Mainstream’s commitment to bringing financial and technological expertise to the projects. Mainstream’s general manager for APAC, Eduardo Karlin, emphasized the company’s dedication to expanding its development footprint in the Philippines, aligning with the government’s renewable energy targets of 35% by 2030 and 50% by 2040. Mainstream’s close ties with the Norwegian Embassy in the Philippines through its majority shareholder Aker Horizons were also acknowledged, with the Norwegian Ambassador affirming Norway’s support for the Philippines’ renewable energy transition.
