Major Thai energy company GULF signs 3.5GWp PV and BESS supply agreements with Sungrow and JinkoSolar

1. Sungrow will provide utility-scale inverters and battery storage equipment to Gulf Energy Development for various solar projects in Thailand.
2. Gulf Energy Development will deploy the equipment at ground-mount solar PV plants, solar-plus-storage hybrids, and rooftop PV projects.
3. Thailand is aiming for carbon neutrality by 2050 and is working on finalizing the National Energy Plan 2023, which includes plans for renewables development and energy efficiency.

Sungrow is providing utility-scale SG350HX string inverters and PowerTitan battery storage equipment, including the PowerTitan 2.0 with up to 5MWh storage capacity using lithium iron phosphate batteries. Gulf Energy Development will deploy this equipment in solar PV plants, solar-plus-storage hybrids, and rooftop PV projects in Thailand between now and 2030. Gulf Energy is one of Thailand’s largest independent power producers, with operations in Southeast Asia. Thailand aims to increase renewable energy participation in the electricity market to drive revenue growth.

Thailand’s electricity generation capacity is made up of gas, coal, and renewables, with renewables accounting for about 23%. Battery storage development in Thailand is limited, but 994MW of solar-plus-storage projects were awarded PPAs in 2022. Thailand aims for carbon neutrality by 2050 and net zero GHG emissions by 2065. The Thailand NEP 2023 will include plans for energy efficiency, renewables, and gas development.

Solar Media will host the 2nd Energy Storage Summit Asia in Singapore in July 2024 to provide clarity on the growing energy storage market, bringing together industry stakeholders including generators, policymakers, banks, technology providers, and more.
