3. Maxeon holds over 1,650 granted patents related to solar technology and is actively enforcing its patent rights from other companies.
Maxeon Solar Technologies has filed a patent infringement lawsuit against REC Solar Holdings and Hanwha in the Eastern District of Texas, accusing them of infringing on Maxeon’s patents related to TOPCon solar cell technology. This comes after Maxeon acquired Solaria’s shingled-cell technology patents, bringing its total number of patents to over 1,650 granted and 330 pending.
The company has been investigating multiple companies for patent infringement and also recently filed a lawsuit against Canadian Solar. Maxeon’s Associate General Counsel, Marc Robinson, stated that intellectual property infringement, along with unfair trade practices like dumping and excess global production capacity, distorts markets and creates an uneven playing field for solar manufacturing.
Maxeon is committed to supporting fair competition and will continue to aggressively protect its patent rights in the United States and other markets. This legal action is part of the company’s efforts to defend its innovations in the solar technology sector and ensure a fair and competitive marketplace for all players in the industry.
