New York Governor Kathy Hochul has announced over $16 million in funding for clean hydrogen innovation through the state’s Hydrogen and Clean Fuel Program. This funding will support research and development projects for clean hydrogen, promoting its use in industries, transportation, energy storage, and grid support.
Administered by NYSERDA, the funding includes an $11 million RD&D solicitation and a $5 million rolling solicitation for entities applying for federal hydrogen funding. The focus areas were shaped by environmental justice and disadvantaged community perspectives.
NYSERDA President Doreen M. Harris emphasized the importance of clean hydrogen in meeting emissions reduction goals and transitioning to clean energy. The funding will support proposals in product development and pilot projects related to clean hydrogen applications.
This is the second round of funding for clean hydrogen projects, with applications due by July 15. The funding is part of the state’s efforts to decarbonize sectors that are challenging to electrify, in alignment with the Climate Action Council’s Scoping Plan and NYSERDA’s Energy Storage Roadmap.
Funding for these initiatives comes from New York’s Clean Energy Fund and the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative. Interested entities can find partners for collaboration through NYSERDA’s partnering platform.
