Nofar and Sungrow collaborate on 230MWh BESS project in Germany

1. Nofar Energy is developing a 116.5MW/230MWh BESS system.
2. Germany has a huge solar PV deployment target of 215GW by 2030, leading to an increase in BESS deployments.
3. Sungrow is expanding its BESS presence in continental Europe, including Spain, while Nofar Energy has recently entered the UK market through a joint venture.

Nofar Energy, an Israel-based developer, is working on a 116.5MW/230MWh battery energy storage system with no set commercial operation date announced yet. A recent deal signed indicates that construction is likely to start soon. This project is similar in size to a 238MWh project in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany, which is one of the largest in the country.

Germany has a goal of 215GW of solar PV deployment by 2030, leading to an increase in battery energy storage system installations. BloombergNEF forecasts a total of 62GW/109GWh of cumulative installs. Sungrow, a major BESS provider globally, is expanding its presence in Europe’s grid-scale market, including in Spain.

Nofar Energy has previously deployed BESS projects in Israel and the UK, forming a joint venture called Atlantic Green for the UK market. The company recently completed its first BESS project there. Energy-Storage.news will host the 2nd Energy Storage Summit Asia in Singapore on July 9-10, 2024. The event aims to bring together key players in the energy storage industry to discuss and provide clarity on the rapidly growing market. For more information, visit the event’s website.
