German utility RWE has signed an agreement with Nordex for the supply of 800MW of wind turbines, with the contract being signed at the WindEurope conference in Bilbao, Spain. The agreement will see RWE procure 120 turbines from Nordex, to be deployed in its core European markets. The primary model to be supplied is the N163 turbine, known for its flexible rated output, with options for the N175 and N149 models. RWE aims to increase its installed capacity in the onshore wind sector to 14GW by 2030 and sees this supply agreement with Nordex as crucial for achieving its growth targets. Nordex CEO José Luis Blanco expressed enthusiasm for expanding cooperation with RWE and driving forward the energy transition. Masdar has also acquired a 49% stake in the Dogger Bank South offshore wind projects from RWE, leaving RWE with a majority 51% share in the ventures. The two companies have committed to a multi-year service agreement for the maintenance and servicing of the onshore wind farms.
