Onshore Works Begin for 50Hertz Windanker Offshore Wind Farm

1. Ostwind 3 grid connection will link the Windanker offshore wind farm to the German mainland.
2. German grid operator 50Hertz is commencing onshore construction for the project with necessary permits already obtained.
3. The completion of the Ostwind 3 grid connection is set for the third quarter of 2026, facilitating the transmission of renewable energy.

German grid operator 50Hertz is beginning construction for the Ostwind 3 grid connection, which will link the 300MW Windanker offshore wind farm in the Baltic Sea to the German mainland. The necessary permits for the land route and substation have been issued by Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania’s Ministry of Economic Affairs. The project includes a 4km-long land route and a ten-hectare substation site in Brunzow near Lubmin. Approval has also been given for the sea route within the territorial sea and the construction of an offshore platform in the Exclusive Economic Zone.

The Ostwind 3 grid connection will enable the transmission of electricity from the wind farm planned by Iberdrola, north of the island of Rügen. The project is scheduled for completion in the third quarter of 2026. The region around Lubmin is anticipated to become an important hub for electricity from renewable sources, with opportunities for sustainable economic development and regional value creation. Several hydrogen projects are already in progress, leveraging the existing gas system infrastructure.

In addition, 50Hertz has contracted HIS, a Dutch-Belgian joint venture, for the construction of the Jasmund offshore platform. The grid operator is responsible for the full planning, construction, and operation of the offshore substation and cable systems connecting the wind farm to the transmission grid. Planning approval has also been secured for the Hansa PowerBridge project, a high-voltage direct current system linking the power grids of Germany and Sweden to support the development of the European internal energy market.
