2. The project includes a 400 MWac solar facility and 1.6 GWh battery energy storage system.
3. The agreement aims to deliver carbon-free energy to the grid, support renewable energy goals, and benefit the local community through tax payments.
Primergy Solar LLC has signed a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA) with San Diego Community Power (SDCP) for the full capacity of its 400 MWac Purple Sage Energy Center. The agreement will begin in 2027, providing green energy and attributes to nearly 1 million customers served by SDCP. Primergy CEO, Ty Daul, emphasized the importance of pairing solar with battery energy storage systems for grid stability. The Purple Sage Energy Center is located in Nevada, making it an optimal solar power location due to its proximity to grid demand and abundant sun.
Karin Burns, CEO of SDCP, highlighted the support for clean energy transition through this agreement with Primergy for the Purple Sage Energy Center. Once completed, the project is expected to generate over 1.2 million MWh of carbon-free solar energy annually, powering more than 100,000 homes per year. Additionally, the project will create approximately US$90 million in local tax payments over its lifetime, benefiting local schools and providing resources for public safety, road upgrades, and infrastructure improvements.
The Energy Global magazine’s Spring 2024 issue features technical articles on battery storage sites, renewables in Europe, electrical infrastructure, turbine and blade monitoring, battery storage technology, and coatings. This agreement between Primergy and SDCP demonstrates a commitment to providing clean, reliable, and affordable energy to customers while supporting environmental sustainability and community benefits in the clean energy transition.
