Primergy Solar has signed a long-term power purchase agreement with San Diego Community Power for the full capacity of its 400-MWAC and 1.6-GWh energy storage Purple Sage Energy Center project. The project is expected to come online in 2027 and will provide renewable energy to nearly 1 million customers served by SDCP, California’s second-largest Community Choice Aggregator.
CEO Ty Daul believes that pairing solar power with energy storage systems is crucial for grid stability and creating a reliable energy resource. The Purple Sage Energy Center, located in Nevada, is in an optimal solar power location due to its proximity to grid demand and abundance of sunlight. Primergy is working with the Bureau of Land Management to develop new standards for renewable energy operations.
SDCP CEO Karin Burns stated that the agreement with Primergy will help the organization meet its renewable energy goals and provide clean, reliable, and affordable energy to customers. Once completed, the Purple Sage Energy Center is expected to generate over 1.2 million MWh of carbon-free solar energy annually, powering over 100,000 homes each year. The project is also projected to create approximately $90 million in local tax payments, benefiting local schools and providing resources for public safety, road upgrades, and infrastructure improvements in Clark County.
