RWE commences cable installation for Thor offshore wind project

– RWE is progressing with the construction of the Thor Offshore Wind Farm
– Cable works are being carried out from mid-April to end of October
– The wind farm is set to be Denmark’s largest offshore wind farm with a capacity of over 1000 MW, supplying electricity to over one million Danish households

RWE is currently progressing with the onshore cable works for its Thor Offshore Wind Farm, with construction taking place from mid-April to the end of October. The onshore substation in Lemvig saw construction starting last year and the project is on track. The cable work involves horizontal directional drilling under the dunes and fields to protect the environment. Visitors are advised to access the northern part of the beach during construction for safety reasons. The cables will be installed and buried by June and July, with connection to the onshore substation by October.

The Thor Offshore Wind Farm, located in the Danish North Sea, is RWE’s venture to increase offshore wind capacity globally. With a planned capacity of over 1000 MW, Thor will be Denmark’s largest offshore wind farm. RWE aims to complete the project by the end of 2027, providing green electricity to more than one million Danish households. This initiative aligns with RWE’s goal of expanding offshore wind capacity to 10 GW by 2030. RWE currently operates the Rødsand 2 wind farm in Denmark as well.
