RWE has received a 495 MW Electricity Business License (EBL) from the Ministry of Trade, Industry & Energy in Korea for the Seohae offshore wind project. This marks RWE’s first exclusive development rights for offshore wind in Korea since opening an office in Seoul in 2021. The EBL allows RWE to generate and supply electricity in Korea, a significant step in developing their first Korean offshore wind project. The company aims to strengthen relationships with local communities, industry, and partners in the market.

Sven Utermöhlen, CEO of RWE Offshore Wind, expressed gratitude to the Korean government and stakeholders for their support in achieving Korea’s renewable energy targets. RWE Renewables Korea will collaborate with local communities and Taean County to contribute to renewable energy development, create jobs, and support local industries and suppliers in the offshore wind sector.

Next steps for the Seohae project include working with local suppliers, conducting Engineering and Environmental Impact Assessment studies, and securing a grid connection agreement with the Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO).
