Salamander, a joint venture between Ørsted, Simply Blue Group, and Subsea7, has submitted an offshore consent application for a 100 MW floating offshore wind farm located off the coast of Peterhead. The project was successful in Crown Estate Scotland’s Innovation and Targeted Oil and Gas (INTOG) leasing round and aims to contribute to the UK’s journey to net zero. Salamander will support the development of the Scottish floating wind supply chain, providing early capabilities and opportunities for the industry to scale up. The project won an Exclusivity Agreement under the innovation category in the INTOG round and is committed to focusing on Scottish content in construction and operation to attract investment and de-risk future projects.
The timely delivery of Salamander is crucial to enabling the UK supply chain for floating wind, supporting local ports and indigenous technologies. Ørsted, a partner in the joint venture, has a track record of delivering socio-economic benefits to communities where it operates renewable energy projects. Community engagement continues with public consultation events planned to inform stakeholders about the project. The development of Salamander will inform best practices and increase industry confidence in preparation for a wider deployment of floating wind in the UK later this decade.
