Voltpost is developing a system that converts ordinary light poles into EV chargers in cities with limited parking options. The company aims to make EV chargers as common as traditional lampposts, providing quick, convenient, and cost-effective charging access. The system transforms lampposts into modular and upgradable Level 2 EV charging platforms powered by a mobile app, with either 2 or 4 charging ports per post.

The Voltpost charging platform is particularly valuable for urban EV drivers living in multi-unit housing buildings without dedicated parking, bringing more EV charging to underserved communities. The modular design allows for easy upgrades and exchanges, maximizing uptime and reducing operating costs. A Charge Station Management System includes a mobile app for drivers to manage charging events, make reservations, track charging, and pay for sessions.

Through piloting installations in New York City, Voltpost demonstrated the efficiency and cost-effectiveness of their lamppost charging systems. The technology taps into existing urban infrastructure to provide convenient curbside charging options for EV users. While the concept appears promising, there are still questions about charging specifications, parking behavior, and protection against vandalism. Feedback and experience will help refine the system to ensure reliable service for all EV drivers in the future.
