Better Energy to implement BESS system at Danish solar farm

– 10 MW lithium-ion battery system to be installed at Hoby solar farm in Denmark by end of 2024
– Better Energy developing strategies for flexible power grid based on renewable energy
– BESS project at Hoby solar park one of the largest energy storage projects in Denmark

Better Energy is set to install a 10 MW lithium-ion battery system at its Hoby solar farm in Denmark by the end of 2024. This project will help the company develop strategies based on grid operators’ need for flexibility in an energy system dominated by renewables. The focus is on balancing consumption and production of green electricity, which requires integrated strategies for grid flexibility.

The battery energy storage system (BESS) project at Hoby solar park will enable Better Energy to offer ancillary services and frequency control to support the Danish TSO, Energinet, in regulating the power grid. This collaboration between renewable energy companies and grid operators is crucial for achieving a stable and reliable power grid, especially as renewable energy production becomes more prominent.

The BESS project is part of Better Energy’s commitment to an energy system based on renewable energy, emphasizing the importance of flexibility. By storing excess energy during peak times for renewable energy, the project aims to stabilize the power grid and ensure the availability of green electricity. This project, one of the largest BESS projects in Denmark, is expected to provide 12 MWh of energy storage and contribute to the development of a flexible power grid driven by renewables.
