Motive Offshore Group has secured a six-figure contract with Briggs Marine to design and manufacture a 300 Te spooler package for use in UK renewable projects over the next two years. The spooler will be essential for Briggs Marine’s offshore cable infrastructure projects, providing a robust integrated solution that can be safely transported and withstand 300Te of cable for installation.
The collaborative approach between Motive and Briggs Marine resulted in the recommendation of a bespoke spooler design, deviating from a conventional reel drive system. This decision led to significant time and cost savings, as well as a reduction in carbon emissions from transportation. The spooler design will also streamline operations by reducing the number of trucks required for transportation.
Motive will design and manufacture a fully specialised package, including a spooling winch and level wind controlled via one system, minimizing personnel requirements. They will also supply a control cabin for emergency stops during operations. Additionally, Briggs Marine will have access to Motive’s training facilities in Banff to support safe mobilization and skill sharing.
