DESRl finishes construction of 80-MW Elektron solar project in Utah

– DESRI’s Elektron Solar Project in Utah has reached commercial operation
– The project was acquired from Enyo Renewable Energy in 2020 and began construction in 2021
– Elektron Solar has power purchase agreements with PacifiCorp under Rocky Mountain Power’s Schedule 34 for renewable energy purchases.

The 80-MWAC Elektron Solar Project in Tooele County, Utah, has achieved commercial operation after beginning construction in 2021 and being acquired from Enyo Renewable Energy in 2020 by D. E. Shaw Renewable Investments (DESRI). Chief Development Officer Hy Martin expressed excitement over the project’s completion, highlighting the challenges faced by the solar industry such as supply chain constraints and rising interest rates.

Elektron Solar has power purchase agreements with PacifiCorp under Rocky Mountain Power’s Schedule 34, serving Utah customers like Salt Lake City, Park City, and Utah Valley University. The project allows these customers to aggregate their electricity demand in order to achieve economies of scale by contracting projects with capacities greater than 5 MW. The strong partnership between DESRI, customers, and local stakeholders has been crucial to the success of the Elektron Solar facility.

This milestone of Elektron Solar reaching commercial operation represents a significant achievement for DESRI and its partners, demonstrating the resilience and viability of renewable energy projects in the face of industry challenges. The project will contribute to meeting the growing demand for clean energy in Utah and supporting sustainable development in the region.
