Akaysha Energy, owned by Blackrock, has secured a AU$250 million debt deal from seven banks for two grid-scale projects in Queensland with a total 710MWh battery capacity. The funds will be used for the Ulinda Park and Brendale BESS assets. Akaysha Energy is also working on other projects like the Waratah Super Battery in New South Wales and the Elaine and Palmerston projects in Victoria and Tasmania. The company has received planning approvals for these projects earlier this year.
The Commonwealth government’s Capacity Investment Scheme (CIS) has seen overwhelming interest from developers, with bids for 19,000MW of energy storage projects received for an initial 600MW procurement in Victoria and South Australia. AEMO Services has shortlisted projects for selection under this scheme, which aims to deploy 32GW of new renewable energy capacity by 2030.
SCEE Electrical has been awarded a contract for the Collie BESS project in Western Australia, which will be the largest BESS project in Australia once completed. The project, set to come online in late 2025, will feature 640 containerised BESS units and will connect to the Western Australia Wholesale Electricity Market. This project is one of three being developed in the Collie region, with another by French IPP Neoen that could potentially be even larger.
