Piscataway Township Schools partnered with Greenskies Clean Focus to install a 1.67-MW rooftop solar portfolio at seven schools and the District Administration Building in New Jersey. The solar arrays ranged in size from 54 kW to 271.35 kW and were funded through a 15-year solar power purchase agreement with no upfront cost to the schools.
Greenskies funded the projects and will handle the operation and maintenance costs, allowing the district to purchase electricity at a fixed rate. This initiative is part of Piscataway Township Schools’ Energy Savings Improvement Plan, which also includes upgrades like more efficient heating and cooling systems and LED lighting.
The district has been recognized for its energy efficiency efforts by the federal Energy Star program, with all 10 district-owned school buildings becoming Energy Star Certified Buildings in 2023. Energy Star-certified buildings use less energy, produce fewer greenhouse gas emissions, and are more cost-effective to operate.
Superintendent Frank Ranelli praised the hard work of the board of education, administration, and staff in making energy savings a priority, emphasizing the district’s commitment to environmental protection and cost savings. This partnership with Greenskies marks a significant step towards Piscataway Township Schools’ goals of reducing their carbon footprint and promoting sustainability.
